Vangelis Ιlias’ conceptual art enters a realm where the plasticity of the human figure takes center stage. His creations in this genre explore the multifaceted nature of human existence, with a strong focus on the anthropocentric perspective. Each sculpture becomes a conduit of self-expression, a raw and unfiltered manifestation of their inner world. His conceptual anthropocentric sculptures demonstrate his unyielding fascination with the complex nuances of human emotions, relationships and the human condition itself.

Vangelis Ilias sculptor artist collaborating with Rebecca Belmore in Documenta 14

A marble rock turned into artwork for Rebecca Belmore, Documenta14

Rebecca is a very nice person and an admirable artist.

The sculpture “Biinjiya’iing Onji” [From Inside] , Documenta 14, Athens Greece 2017, was a really impressive idea,

a contribution and an enhancement for refugees who trying to live a better life.

I created this commissioned artwork in 2017. The idea was introduced to me by Rebecca.

It was a marble rock that turned into a handmade artwork

with which she took part in the Documenta 14.

I am very happy and excited to help Rebecca make the marble artwork in my sculpture studio.

I wish her continued production of high quality artworks.
